I've seen the trailer twice now on the silver screen and this movie just makes me laugh! The carnage and adrenaline alone make me ansy to see it... in that "B Action" movie vibe much like
Doomsday.
So, who's gonna see
Death Race when it hits US theaters August 22?

Looks like a mix of the old movies "Death Race 2000" and "The Running Man".
Having said that I don't mean it in a bad way, I'll add this to my catch at the cinema and/or buy on DVD list.

Oh indeed, in fact I just picked up both the Transporter movies on DVD for £4 (Funny British money I know), but that's well cheap. That ought to get me in the mood for Death Race.

Wiki has it listed as a remake of Death Race 2000, imdb lists is follows Death Race 2000.
I think it was wiki listed Statham's character name as Frankenstein, but there was no mention of that in the trailer I saw.
Either way, looks like a fun movie to watch.
Looks better than the remake of Rollerball anyway.

I just saw the trailer yesterday. It does look like a fun movie and I'm definately adding it to my list.

I will definitely be seeing it. Originally this was billed as a remake of Death Race 2000 with a working title of Death Race 3000 but from what I hear now it's changed the story a bit. The original the race was a sport and you got points for killing pedestrians, all good stuff but the new one is a race between prisoners who are trying to kill each other, takes some of the fun away.
I'll still go and see it. I am sure its going to be hyped at Comic-Con next week in San Diego. I'll let you all know.
Cheers

Definitely a perfect movie for the Warlands feel of armored vehicles and weaponry!
We really need a Frank model for Warlands!

Well I saw the movie at the weekend and loved it, so much fun. I like the fact it just gets on with it. Apart from the bit with Jason Statham's character there is little you know about anyone else, and you don't need to. It's a film about cars with guns. It delivers exactly what it says on the box, and delivers it in an exciting way.

Lots more ideas for Warlands scenery now.

It's about time LBH!

So, in 2008 I've seen a lot of fantastic "genre" films from The Dark Knight to Iron Man, Speed Racer, and more...
but in all honesty, Death Race and Doomsday were my two favorite because they were fun and spectacular to watch. Neither story was as far-fetched as a man inventing an iron suit or a college professor discovering aliens after surviving a nuke by hiding inside a refrigerator and both had just as many fantastic scenes, eye candy, and premise.

Elements of and references to:
Aliens
Running Man
Death Race 2000 (Obviously)
Wipeout
A goodly number of prison movies.
Definitely getting added to the DVD collection.

ah but the Tombstone was 6" of steel! hurrah! It'd be an awesome design idea for the game / cars.
I watched Death Race for the 3rd time (2nd on DVD) on Sat. morning before heading to Billy's for a day of Rez.

I finally saw this movie on DVD. My girl would never go with me to see it (though she'll take me to every crappy horror movie that comes out). I bought it used for cheap from Hastings. I liked it (in a mindless action kinda way). On a side note, Statham hasn't made great movie choices lately (Snatch and the first Transporter were so great).

Saw Deathrace this weekend on DVD (as well as Venture Bros. Season 3) and was totally inspired to bust out my cars and start working on them.
