I love the post-apocalyptic genre... Death Race... Doomsday... Tank Girl. Hopefully The Road is decent too!

ya ive had my eyes on this for a long time, they havent put out any previews besides those for like a year (sounds like something else i know of kidding) just bought the book for christmas, havent touched it yet cuz i dont know if i want to read it before or after the movie.

i dont see how it could be bad thow, i mean Viggo is in it and hes just dreamy. theres cannibal and raiders cant go wrong with this one.

I'm actually more impressed that Theron (dreamy!), Pierce, and Duvall are in it. Viggo will definitely help too.

oh well ya shes ok too.haha ... viggo looks really messed up and old in this movie. even thow hes like 50 years old he still looks gross in this movie, goes to show what a nuclear bomb can do to your complection, look what it did to that bum... theron seems unaffected thow. i geuss every one else drew the short stick.

i hate when people in medieval movies have perfect white teeth.

I've read the book of The Road. Very depressing and not at all Death Race/Doomsday /Tank Girl like at all. It's the journey of a man and boy across the country after an event (which in the book is never defined). It's a real character piece, not so much action like the above mentioned films. Not sure what "hollywood" is going to do to this one. Be interesting to see though. I'll definitely go and see it. smile.gif

Hi j,

The book was excellent, depressing but excellent. Very well written. I am not sure what Hollywood would have done to it but I am optimistic especially with Viggo Mortensen in it. Definitely one to watch.

Yeah, definitely not car shoot 'em up whatsoever! Some real dreary events, scenery in there...

Definitely, its a real depressing book. But unfortunately I somehow don't think "Hollywood" will let it be like that as a movie, which is a shame. In a strsnge way its the depressing nature that makes the book so gripping. OH well we will have to wait and see what they do with it. smile.gif

I dunno man...I think the censors would come up with a few objections. Baby anyone?(unless I'm mixing up my books here...)

But some great actors in there. Guy Pierce...awesome...Viggo...great... and one of my favorite character actors in the commercial, Garret Dillahunt. Who played two roles in DEADWOOD and more recently Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicles.

Was this set in the US?

I remember reading something similar in high school but it was definitely set in Australia.

Hi JackDinn.

Yes it is set in the US. The Cormac McCarthy book originally came out 2006.

Saw the Road yesterday. Really good movie. Very true to the book. Not your Hollywood action apocalypse movie, but definitely good. Oscar potential? I think so.

Hit this up today...and man, what a movie. Frankly, it's astounding. The acting is top notch and overall feel of the movie, just so despondent. I mean, it's an f'ing downer like you wouldn't believe. But I think it's absolutely brilliant. The actors are just so...incredible. With some beautifully acted cameos from Guy Pierce, Robert Duvall and one of my favorite character actors, Garret Dillahunt. It's not an action packed movie at all, so don't goto expecting that. But if you are into any post-apocalyptic genre and how people survive or what they do to survive, this movie is worth seeing. I'm actually kinda happy that I didn't get a chance to read the book before the film, left some surprises that much more shocking. But now I can't wait to read the book...

It seems to be in limited release, so go out and support this film. In San Diego, only 3 theaters are showing it and one of them is an old art house theater(the one I went to), it really deserves more recognition than it's getting.

Can you tell I loved this film? wink.gif

Not sure I can tell, need a bit more. wink.gif I agree though, this is a great movie and I am so glad they stayed true to the book. Glad you liked it, well worth the money.
