Full Version: Rez - a planned Future or not?

Lord Abaddon of Wormwood
It has been years since I look at this game, not because of the game but more because of mucked up releases, the odd (or not so odd) bad sculpt and the lack of general excitement for what the near future might/will hold for the game.

I opened up the rulebook once more this week, after wiping off the layer of dust, to be suck down into the world of Rez and it's fast and fun gameplay. So I come to you with a number of questions, questions not hate mind you.

Of course with the advent of Warlands the focus for the company will be on the hype for this new game/system; this is all good and the best of luck to you with this venture. The scale is good, to the point that I do wish that more games were 20mm so that more epic battles could be fought (whilst not being epic). The subject matter of the game is not for me, never been one for cars, car games or the likes so I will say once again best of luck.

That all said what is the direction of Rez? Will it stay in the current format of the core rulebook and a supp? Or is the core book redundant with Shadow Wars? Can that be so since the fluff of the setting is in the core..... can you see where I am going with this? You have two core rulebooks, one more updated than the other but without the first you don't get the depth of the game. Can we have a 2nd Edition? I know that the world is in financial melt down so I am asking you would you look at making the books pdf sales? I do not have Outbreak but living in Australia there is little incentive to ship in the book that will be double the cover price once it lands. I want the rules, I want my crew to grow and learn, to take over cities and rule with an cyber fist but that is not going to happen with the way of the world and the price of shipping dead trees.
A 2nd edition would also be nice to have the Hacking readdressed - there was talk of a cards system once - did that get panned? Has hacking been updated in Outbreak? What is the main roll of a hacker in the game these days/what is the roles focus?

I have been reading the threads about the future of Rez and what is yet to come and the conclusion I am coming up with is that you don't know how much faith you can place in the game. By not outlining the future of the game even in pencil (I am not talking about release dates or schedules) but answering with a smile and a wink leaves no firm comfort to the consumers of this game.

Here are some of the questions that are floating in my head:

Can we get a revised core book - one book?

Can the rules be made pdf. so it grabs a wider target market. Stores may not be interest in carrying your products but customers will find the game if it's out on the web for sale without shipping. This in turns leads to playing by proxies then into buying the figures.

Will we see any more factions released for play? I remember there was talk of four and I am assuming that the Vatican was one and the Penal was the second - can we know what to expect with three and four?

This might be in Outbreak but will there be rules for vehicles, hacking said vehicles and the destruction of vehicles?

Would it be in Aberrant's interest to have an open license for their game? The ability to use the game's core to run other games.

Like I opened with this is not a hate rant (it is a rant or at least a huge block of text) but more trying to see where the future lies for the Dark Tomorrow.

Even though I'm not Aberrant staff I will try and answer some of this:

This has been requested more than once. I don't think that anything like this is going to happen any time soon. The Shadow Wars rule book(let) is in effect a revised version. It contains all of the rules but no fluff.

For me personally I always prefere the book over the pdf and I'm one for hardcovers as well. But thats just me. Recently someone (I think it was Tony) said that Aberrant doesn't currently plan to go down the PDF rout but nothing was ruled out.

There are four factions in the core rules: Ronin, CSO, Dravani and APAC. Outbreak gave us the fifth faction: Vatacina. At the end of Outbreak there is mention of one more to come: The Paneer. there is also a pic I beleive (don't have the book at hand now). As you see there is quite some future planned already. Further more all te faction are currently being extended. The Ronin just recently saw the Brawler and Vatacina got the Pistol Fencer. Both are really nice models that fit the fluff of their faction very well.

There has been some talk about APAC vehicles. Other may come. But Vehicle rules are not what REzolution is really about. The scale of things is too personal for anything larger than bikes and small cars maybe. I can't imagine that we'll see anything like tanks or dropships (though they have been requested wink.gif )

As for hacking, there have been some new rules for hackers in Outbreak New hardware (boards) and programs. You asked about the role of hackers in a game. Besides hacking Bots, Robots and Cyborgs we play a lot of hacking Szenarios in our group. Even when there is no explicit hacking from the scenario I still always pack at least one hacker to deviate the opponents bomb bots, take over medi bots and gun turrents.

Maybe I was able to answer some of your questions. I personally would like to see Aberrant reveil a whee bit more about their plans ... but then again I think all gamers ask this of their favourite manufacturer wink.gif

cheers

I'd like to throw my hand up for PDF's. Because no one in Australia stocks Rezolution, to buy Outbreak direct from Aberrant will cost me 3 times what I paid for A Dark Tomorrow. (I don't have a credit card so unless there's an alternative, I can't pay for it anyway.)

PDFs may not be practical but shipping costs on individual books put them out of the price range of most consumers.
